When I was growing up in a small town in the Midwest I always thought of people in different positions as honorable and worthy of respect. My teachers in school, lawyers, doctors, actually anyone who was an adult I always addressed as Mr./Mrs. or Miss. I never called them by their first names and I never thought that they said anything that wasn’t true. Why would they lie to me, I was just a kid and there was an unsaid rule that I trusted them and they treated me properly.
As I have grown up I have come to believe a totally different paradigm. Back in my hometown of 2500 people I think things are pretty much the same as they were when I was growing up. Maybe the younger generation isn’t as formal as we were back in the day but it certainly isn’t full of the disrespectful idiots many of our cities are experiencing.
I think the most important difference I see today is that most of the politicians, especially at the higher levels, are really the dumbest people we have. Couple that with a system that is so corrupt, you then have the situation we find ourselves in in this country.
Just a few days ago a Representative from California said that “he is worried that if the Republicans win in the midterm elections that voting in this country as we know it will be gone. This is not only the most important election, but if we don’t get it right, it could be the last election.”
How can anyone say anything so stupid? Can he be dumb enough to actually believe what he is saying? I can’t believe anyone can be that ignorant. I may be wrong, maybe he is that dumb, but I think more likely is that the strategy is to say something totally outrageous so he gets a little more face time in the media.
It worked. Most of the major media outlets mentioned the story and here I am writing about it as well.
Yesterday many of the major politicians gave speeches on how terrible the event was on January 6, 2021. I could not listen to any of them and have only read a few excepts from their speeches. It was important for them to compare that date with the Civil War, (Estimated 750,000 in the line of duty.) Pearl Harbor, (2,403 in the line of duty and 68 civilians) and 9/11 attacks, ( 2,996, including 19 hijackers.)
I can’t begin to measure the size of the insult to these people, their families and their heirs from this level of stupidity. One person died on January 6, 2021, a unarmed civilian woman was shot point blank without warning in the neck. (No consequences to the person who killed her.)
By the way both sides do this. Sometimes to different degrees, but both sides omit certain facts, exaggerate, and sensationalize in order to try and create a desired emotional reaction. How I long for the Sargent Friday type to receive “Just the facts, please.”
I don’t what is worse, the fact that these idiots say these things or the fact that they think voters will believe them? I have reached a point where I no longer believe what anyone says, either in authority or in the media.
It is getting more and more difficult to find the truth any more. Everything you see, hear or read needs to be evaluated from an objective rational standpoint. It always starts with a smell test for me and my sense of smell is getting stronger and much more discerning.
